I am finding black dust on my Instrument Stand. Where is this coming from?
Any sign of black dust around rotating/mechanical items is an indication of dirty and dried out lubrication that is no longer providing protection on moving parts. Without maintenance, seizing up and permanent damage is eminent.
What is causing my projector to have a dullness and dark shadows on screen?
There are a couple things that can cause this. One is simply a bad bulb or the projector optics is dirty and needs cleaned. If you are using a manual projector with cax bulb, I request you take a look at our halogen bulb conversion.
What is causing the axis to move on my phoroptor when I move my Jackson Gross Cylinder into place?
This is most likely caused by lubrication that has hardened. Phoroptor needs service immediately.
What would cause a lot of my patients to complain that the image through phoroptor seems foggy or unclear?
Over time, 12-18 months, the lens in your phoroptor become fogged due to the environment inside of the phoroptor. They also become dirty due to outside environment and from finger prints, makeup, etc. Time to schedule phoroptor service.
Is it ok to clean the lens of my phoroptor thru the aperture with glass cleaner?
Do not use any glass cleaner that contains ammonia. If you do not know what is in your glass cleaner, DON’T USE IT. You have to be very careful cleaning your lens through the aperture. Lens can easily be pushed out of their holder which will cause a major repair. If you have a smudge you feel you must clean use very light pressure on Q-tip. The other issue with cleaning lens in the phoroptor without taking the phoroptor apart is lint and dirt fall inside the phoroptor which will eventually cause other operational problems.
How often should I have my Ophthalmic Equipment serviced / cleaned?
My experience has been and most manufacturers recommend every 18-24 months on phoroptor and every 3 years on the rest.
